This Thursday, the US news agency Associated Press (AP) revealed that 18 congressmen from the Democratic Party of the United States (USA) sent a letter to President Joe Biden asking him to lift the sanctions against Venezuela.
This was announced by AP correspondent for Latin America, Joshua Goodman through his account on the social network Twitter. From there he published the photos of the document signed by the congressmen where they ask the US president to lift the sanctions against Venezuela.
“President Nicolás Maduro seems committed to restarting negotiations with opposition forces. This new approach towards Venezuela is already giving tangible results and we should carry it out. We urge you to continue the dialogue with the Venezuelan government and in support of that process, to consider lifting the broad economic sanctions, which have achieved little more than the widespread suffering of the Venezuelan people,” the text details.
In that sense, the letter explains that the policies of the Donald Trump administration failed to improve the situation in the South American country. Contrary to this, the congressmen detail that “the political crisis” was significantly exacerbated.
“Broad-based sanctions are widely known for disproportionately harm women and children, as well as other vulnerable populations.”
